Volkswagen Group has officially announced the local development of MQB AO IN platform at its Pune based facility. Skoda will lead the development of new products, platform and engine technologies for both Skoda and Volkswagen. The first model based on the MQB AO In platform will make its debut in 2020. If reports are to be believed, the company will introduce a compact SUV which will share design cues from the Skoda Vision X concept. This model will be slotted below the Karoq SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in India in 2019.
Czech automaker claims that the Skoda Vision X concept is basically a design study for an ‘urban compact crossover’. The design hints towards the company’s upcoming compact crossover. This compact SUV will be powered by Volkswagen Groups’ new 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. Both manual and automatic versions of the SUV will be on offer.

Skoda Vision X SUV Specifications
Volkswagen Group has confirmed that the compact SUV will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which powers the global VW and Skoda models. This motor offers two states of tunes – 94bhp and 114bhp. We believe that the Compact SUV will receive the more powerful version of this engine. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The concept previewed was powered by a CNG hybrid system, which features a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that runs on CNG. It is capable of producing 127bhp and 249Nm of torque. This engine is supported by two electric motors, a belt-driven starter-generator that powers the front axle. The second 26.6bhp electric motor powers the rear axle.

Skoda Vision X SUV Design, Interior
This concept previews design for company’s future urban compact crossover. The Vision X concept features Skoda’s signature grille and ‘power dome’ on the bonnet, which seems largely identical to the Karoq and Kodiaq. It is equipped with raised headlights with thin daytime running lights and indicators. At the back, the Skoda Vision X gets L-shaped tail-lights and bumper reflector. Dimensionally, the Skoda Vision X is 4,250mm, 1,500mm and 1,800mm in length, width and height respectively. The new model sits on a longer wheelbase of 2,645mm, which translates into spacious cabin.
The cabin of the Skoda Vision X concept features a wider dashboard that accommodates a large, centrally-located touchscreen infotainment system along with a small wing, which is designed to rest a hand on, while operating the screen. It has a 2+2 seating layout and long boards in the boot.
