Skoda Vision RS Concept Makes Global Debut at Paris Motor Show
The Skoda Vision RS previews the new-generation Rapid hatchback and a hot hatch.
Skoda Auto has taken the wraps off the Skoda Vision RS concept at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. “With its dynamic design language and efficient plug-in-hybrid drive”, the Vision RS study concept is claimed to “provide the first insights into the next evolutionary stage of Skoda’s sporty RS models”. The Skoda Vision RS previews the new-generation Rapid hatchback and a hot hatch that will be positioned against the Hyundai i30N, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf in the global markets. For power, the Skoda Vision RS makes use of a plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering a combined power output of 245bhp and a pure electric range of 70 kilometres.

The hot-hatch has a 1.5-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine and an electric motor pushing out power worth 148 bhp and 100bhp respectively. With plug-in hybrid engine, the concept is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 7.1 seconds and deliver a top speed of 210kmph. One can charge the 13kWh battery in two and a half hours. Inside, the Skoda Vision RS features floating seats with vegan Alcantara covers and polyester thread made up of 100 percent recycled materials. The floor mats are composed of Pinatex textile material (extracted from Pineapple trees) in a carbon weave pattern. Other highlights include crystal glass, Lasvit crystal, instrument panel with carbon elements and special RS design moniker, unique light effects and motor racing inspired loop-shaped door handles.
Sitting on the Volkswagen Polo’s MAB A0 platform, the Skoda Vision RS has been designed at the carmaker’s Prague design studio. Upfront, the performance SUV features slim headlamps and radiator grille with a few black carbon bits. With respect to dimensions, the Skoda Vision RS measures 4356mm in length, 1810mm in width and 1431mm in height. Its wheelbase stands at 2650mm, thus making it wider and longer than Rapid Spaceback. In fact, it sits slightly lower than the latter. The hot hatch concept has a boot capacity of 430-litres.
