No Further Delays For 2020 Honda City Sedan

2020 Honda City Launch Price

The fifth-generation Honda City was slated to launch in March, 2020. However, it has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. Now, the company has confirmed that there will be further delays for the 2020 Honda City sedan.

Speaking to PTI, Rajesh Goel, Honda Cars India Ltd Senior Vice President and Director Marketing and Sales has revealed that the company will launch new models to create excitement among buyers and go ahead with its scheduled plans. Though, the carmaker has challenges on several fronts including supply chain, production, sales activity at dealerships and the negative market sentiment.

2020 Honda City Launch Date

The fifth and fourth generation City will be retailed together to cover a wider range of customers in terms of variants and price. Denying the rumours, Goel said that the current-generation Honda City will not serve the fleet market. Launched in late 2019, the BS6 Honda City petrol comes in the price range of Rs 9.91 lakh – Rs 14.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Currently, the model is available with huge discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh (vary variant-wise).

The carmaker believes that the 2020 Honda City will fill in big shoes of its predecessor. Reports suggest that the next-generation City will come with a new 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine that will be based on a new architecture and have better technology. It will be more powerful and torqueier than the old engine. The new twin-cam gasoline motor will offer power worth 119bhp and a peak torque of 155Nm.

The sedan will also be available with the BS6-compliant version of the 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be reserved for the petrol variants and the diesel models will get a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission. Unlike the current generation, the new one will come in three trims – V, VX and ZX.
