New Toyota Baleno Hatchback To Launch In H2, 2019

Toyota badged Baleno hatchback will be the first product to roll out under this joint alliance.

In 2017, Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki had signed an agreement towards the mutual supply of hybrid and other vehicles in the Indian market. While the former will supply the Corolla sedan to Suzuki, the latter one will provide the Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV to Toyota. Both the carmakers will also work together for introducing electric vehicles by 2020.

Talking to Autocar, N Raja, deputy managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has confirmed that the Toyota badged Baleno hatchback will hit showrooms in the second half of this year. It will be the first product to roll out under this joint alliance. Toyota aims to strengthen its sales network in India and provide a different sales experience to its customers.

Besides Toyota’s badge, the Toyota Baleno hatchback will receive subtle design changes including a new front grille, revised front and rear bumpers and new lights. Rumour also has it that the hatchback might receive a touchscreen infotainment system, parking sensors with reverse camera, electronically adjustable mirrors and climate control.  Read – 4 New Toyota Cars Launching In India

Mechanically, the Toyota Baleno hatchback is likely to feature the same 1.2L K-Series petrol and 1.3L diesel engine. While former makes 83.1bhp with 115Nm, the latter develops 74bhp with 190Nm of torque. The report further suggests that the hatchback might also get hybrid powertrain. Transmissions will also remain unchanged.
