New Hyundai Santro will share its platform and engine with the i10.

Hyundai India had confirmed that its popular hatchback – Santro will make a comeback in the second half of 2018. According to a latest report, the new Santro (codename – Hyundai AH2) will arrive in the market sooner than expected timeline. The hatchback’s new-generation model might hit showrooms in August, 2018. However, no official word has been made on the same.

If media reports are to be believed, the new Santro could be introduced with a new nameplate. Rumour also has it that the car could be introduced as a replacement to the Eon, which isn’t compatible to the upcoming new safety norms. Check Out: Upcoming Hyundai Cars in India

New Hyundai Hatchback Concept 

The South Korean carmaker might use the i10 platform for the new Santro hatchback. Compared to its donor sibling, the hatch will be 10mm taller and 10 to 15mm wider. Its height will measure around 1,560mm. The new model will offer some segment-leading features along with the best-in-class cabin space. While the semi digital display could be standard, the touch-screen infotainment system will be reserved for the top-spec trim. Under the hood, the hatchback will house the i10’s 1086cc engine producing a top power of 70bhp and 100Nm of torque. The company has already confirmed that the new Santro will debut with the brand’s first AMT (automated manual transmission). A 5-speed manual gearbox will also be offer. Mileage figure of the vehicle will stand at over 22kmpl.

In terms of pricing, the new-gen model will sit between the Eon and the Grand i10. Estimated to be priced below Rs 3 lakh, the new Santro will take on the Tata Tiago and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
