In a bid to regain the 50% above market share, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce multiple new products in India in the next couple of years. The Indo-Japanese brand is looking to introduce more modern, feature-loaded and technically improved products to compete well against the Hyundai Motor Company. In this article, we bring you a confirmed list of upcoming new Maruti Suzuki Cars to be launched in the Indian market in 2021 and 2022.
New Celerio
Maruti Suzuki will introduce the second generation Celerio hatchback in mid-2021, most probably around July-September. Design of the hatchback has already been leaked via patent images. The new model will be based on the Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new S-Presso and the new WagonR. The 2021 Celerio will receive a 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine that also powers the WagonR hatchback. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. The hatchback will also offer the existing 1.0L 3-cylinder K10 petrol engine that offers 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
New Alto
Maruti Suzuki is working on the next generation Alto hatchback, which is reportedly to be launched in the first half of 2022. The new model will grow in size, and will offer more space inside the cabin. It will be based on the Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform and will come with a mild hybrid system. The hatchback will retain the original styling with modern design elements. It will get more modern features inside the cabin. It will be offered with a BSVI compliant 800cc 3-cylinder petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system.
New Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is preparing the second generation Vitara Brezza, which is rumoured to be launched in the end of 2021. However, the launch could have been delayed due to COVID-19 restriction. The new Brezza compact SUV will be based on the advanced version of the HEARTECT platform, which will support multiple modern features such as connected car tech, a more modern touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger, sunroof, etc. The new Brezza will come with the existing 1.5L K15B petrol engine; however, it will get a stronger mild hybrid system. It is expected to feature a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to achieve higher fuel efficiency.
5-Door Jimny
Maruti Suzuki will launch the 5-door version of the Jimny SUV in India by July 2022. The new model will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase, and will sit below 4 meters in length. The new model is reportedly to feature a turbocharged engine with a mild hybrid system. It could get a 1.4L turbo petrol engine that also powers the Swift Sport. The India-spec model could get a 1.5L NA petrol engine That also powers the 3-door model. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. AWD system will come as standard.
Mid-Sized SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is also developing a new mid-sized SUV, which will have two different versions. One version will be sold under Maruti Suzuki nameplate, and will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. It will be based on the Toyota’s new DNGA platform, which also underpins the Toyota Raize. The new model will be produced at Toyota’s production plant, which was earlier used to produce Yaris sedan.
The SUV is likely to receive a new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which currently powers the global-spec Swift Sport. The company is also reportedly working on a new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, which could also debut in the mid-sized SUV.
New Baleno
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on the next-gen Baleno and a Baleno-based crossover for the Indian market. However, MSIL is yet to make an official announcement on the same. It is expected that the new Baleno could be introduced in 2022. The new model will be based on the HEARTECT platform and will come with more modern features and connected car tech. It will come with the existing petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox.
