German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has launched the new 2021 S-Class luxury sedan in the Indian market. The 2021 Mercedes S-Class comes with enhanced styling, and upgraded interior along with bigger dimensions. Mercedes offers a service packages with the S-Class, which starts at Rs 82,900 for 2 years. The 2021 Mercedes S-Class is available in 2 variants – S400d 4MATIC and S450 4MATIC – priced at Rs 2.17 crore and 2.19 crore respectively.
The 2021 Mercedes S-Class is bigger than the previous model. India gets a long wheelbase version of the S-Class, which measure 5,289mm in length, 1,954mm in width and 1,503mm in height. The sedan has a wheelbase of 3,216mm. Measuring over 5 meters, the new S-Class promises to offer plenty of space inside the cabin.
The 2021 Mercedes S-Class looks identical to the previous model; however, it gets some visible changes that gives it a fresh look. Instead of a twin slat design for the grille, the new S-Class comes with a neater looking three slat grille. There is a chrome lining on the revised bumper. It gets newly styled headlamps with integrated DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). It gets a new ‘Digital Light’ LED headlamps that can even project symbols and guidelines.
The side profile also resembles the previous model; however, it now gets flush door handles that pop out on approaching the car and curl back in automatically when not needed. It is claimed that this addition increases the aerodynamic capabilities of the vehicle. The sedan rides on the newly designed 20-inch alloy wheels.
The 2021 Mercedes S-Class comes with redesigned dashboard that has a vertically-mounted 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen. It retains the 12.3-inch digital MID that is capable and display multiple important information. The luxury sedan also gets second generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) and comes with features like Voice Control and Fingerprint recognition.
The second row gets ventilated seats with massage function, and a dedicated tabled docked in the centre armrest. The luxury sedan also gets ambient lighting system and a Burmester 4D surround sound system.
The 2021 Mercedes S-Class is available in two engine options – a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel and a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol. The diesel engine is capable of producing 330bhp of power at 3,600 – 4200rpm and a peak torque of 700Nm between 1200-3200rpm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 5.4 seconds.
The petrol engine is capable of churning out power of 367bhp at 5,500-6100rpm and a peak torque of 500Nm between 1,600-4,500rpm. It achieves 0-100kmph in just 5.1 seconds. Both engines are paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
