New Gen Maruti Alto Launch Delayed Further To 2022

We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki is readying the next generation Alto hatchback, which has already been caught testing in India. The hatchback was planned to be introduced in the second half of 2021. However, a new media report suggests that the new gen Maruti Alto will be launched in mid-2022.

The exact reason behind the delay in launch of the new gen Maruti Alto (Codenamed Y0M) is yet to be revealed. However, the COVID-19 pandemic should be the main reason behind this delay. The new model could be unveiled in the early 2022, while launch could happen around July-August 2022.

Next-gen Suzuki Alto Works rendered

The new gen Maruti Alto is currently in advanced stages of development, as the new model has already been snapped. It is expected that the new model will retain the overall profile, featuring short overhangs at the front and rear. The hatchback is likely to receive significant design changes in terms of new headlamps, more prominent grille and new tail-lamp clusters.

The new gen Maruti Alto is reportedly to be based on the new lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the new S-Presso and the Wagon R. It is also expected that the new model will grow in size, which should create more space inside the cabin. It is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and speed alert system will come as standard.

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto hatchback is expected to be powered by the existing 796cc 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 48bhp and 69Nm of torque. This engine could also feature the Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid tech. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer. The hatch will also receive a factory-fitted CNG kit.

Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the second generation Celerio hatchback in the third quarter of 2021, before Diwali. The new model will be based on the HEARTECT platform and will receive modern features. It will rival the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Santro.

The company is also preparing the second generation Vitara Brezza, new S-Cross, 5-door Jimny and an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be introduced by 2023. Adding to it, Suzuki is also working on next-gen Swift and the Baleno hatchbacks.
