New Ford EcoSport 2017 Review – Much More Than A Mid-life Facelift!

[clear]

How does it perform?

Mechanically, it retains the 1.5-litre TDCI oil burner from the previous version, though Ford has used a new 1.5-litre, three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Sadly, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine has been dropped from the carline. While we have already discussed about the new petrol engine in detail in a separate video, we got our hands on the 99bhp, 1.5-litre TDCI oil burner with 205Nm torque.

What makes this unit efficient is the ease with which it can be manoeuvred around city roads, there is hardly any turbo lag and there is enough power supply. Another department where it excels is the throttle response, a little push on the accelerator and it runs smoothly. Gear shifting is not required amid stop and go traffic which makes the diesel engine suitable for city driving. After 1800rpm, it offers ample power throughout the rev band, though it gets a bit noisy after 4000rpm, but can go around 5000rpm. The robust power supply helps achieve triple digit speed on highways and hence makes it fun to drive on highways. Ford India’s engineering team has worked well on the NVH levels as the noise does not seep inside the cabin. Check Out – Upcoming Ford Cars in India

New Ford EcoSport 2017 First Drive

Carrying the Ford DNA, it has excellent driving dynamics and will not disappoint you. Steering is precise, accurate and controlled which makes it one of the best in the segment. The steering weight is optimum which allows attaining high speeds confidently. It carries over the same suspension set up from the predecessor, though Ford has made it a bit soft for improved ride quality in city. The change in suspension does not affect the ride quality at high speeds, it remains calm and composed at all speeds. Moreover, Ford has equipped larger tyres with 17-inch alloy rims and 205mm width that provide a better grip on road. What also impressed us is the razor sharp braking performance as it stops immediately even if the brakes are exerted abruptly. Since we could not drive the petrol version, it would be difficult to comment on that, though we will soon do a review on that. Read: Ford Kuga SUV – All You Need To Know
