Ford launched its much-awaited EcoSport facelift in India before bidding adieu to the current calendar year. The company also introduced its all-new 1.5-litre petrol unit from the Dragon engine family on the new EcoSport along with its new SYNC 3 infotainment system. While Ford is planning to introduce new engines from its Dragon engine family in the new products, the company is also working on a new platform codenamed B563, that will form base for its new models. Most of the carmakers in India re focusing on SUVs and Ford is following the trend. Currently, it has two SUVs in its product range, a subcompact model and a premium entry level SUV. To fill in the void between both these cars, Ford is planning to bring Kuga SUV from its global range. Upon its launch, Kuga will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Renault Captur in the segment. As for the styling, the front is expected to be inspired by Endeavour with similar grille and swooping headlamps. Ford has already previewed the new Mustang in the international markets. As for the changes, it will receive cosmetic updates on the outside as well as inside. Additionally, the interiors will get a new smartphone integration and new infotainment tech. Aside from the cosmetic updates, it will also get mechanical changes. That said, the suspension set up will be tweaked for better ride quality and there will be a more powerful 5-litre V8 petrol unit along with a new duel delivery system. Ford India’s first successful model, Figo received a generation change in 2015, albeit the second-gen Figo failed to repeat success witnessed by its predecessor and hence Ford is working on a facelift version that is expected to launch sometime next year. Reports in media suggest Figo facelift will first launch in Brazil, followed by its India launch. Among the changes, expect it to a new touchscreen infotainment system and a bunch of other in-cabin bits. Engine options on the carline are likely to include a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT, 1.5-litre TDCi and a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT Dragon petrol unit. Along with the Figo facelift, Ford is also working on the new Aspire that could be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo alongside other upcoming Ford cars. In fact, a heavily camouflaged Aspire was recently spied undergoing test runs giving inkling of the expected changes on the subcompact sedan. The engine choices and transmission options are likely to be carried over from the current model, though Ford could tweak the 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre TDCI units for better fuel economy. Additionally, the model will receive Ford’s new SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
