How is it on the inside?
Most of the changes have been made to the interior that looked a bit dated earlier. The material quality has improved, there is a new design for the dashboard, though it has some rough edges and gaps, which could have been better. There is a new leather wrapped steering wheel with multiple mounted buttons, it’s good to hold and can be adjusted for height and reach. Another vital addition to the facelifted EcoSport is the new Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system that has been borrowed from the Endeavour. The touch response of the large 8.0-inch touchscreen is good, probably the best in the segment. It now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that were missing in the pre-facelift model. Ford has added a new automatic climate control to the EcoSport that cools the cabin effectively, unfortunately it still lacks rear AC vents. There are two illuminated USB ports and 25 utility storage points including a cubby hole good enough to keep a wallet or phone, another storage space on the dashboard just above the glove box, two bottle holders (500ml) on the floor console, bottle holders on all doors (1.0-litre), glovebox with two compartments, an undertray on the co-passenger seat and a storage compartment under the front centre armrest etc.
Luggage compartment has a capacity of 352-litres which is one of the best in the segment and can be extended further to 1100-litres by folding the rear seats. The seats are wider and offer a commanding view from the inside, additionally it comes with height adjusting function and there is comfortable knee room, thigh support, side support and head room at front. Ford has increased the rear seat height and adjusted the backrest angle for more comfort. With these changes, the new EcoSport offers best in class thigh support, albeit the knee room, head room and leg room are sufficient at the back. In terms of space, the rear seat is good for two adults and a kid, though it can accommodate three adults after some adjustment. It gets a centre armrest with integrated cup holders at the rear end. In terms of equipment, the new EcoSport brims with features including tyre monitoring system, cruise control, reverse parking camera, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, ambient lighting, hill launch assist, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat restraints among several others.
