MG Motor Aims To Sell 5,000-6,000 Gloster Annually
Morris Garages Motors is ready to enter into fully-fledged premium SUV segment with the Gloster and MPV space with the G10 and 360M. The carmaker has already confirmed that the MG Gloster will hit Indian roads during this year festive season (i.e. near around Diwali).
Speaking to an online media publication, Rajeev Chaba, MG Motors India, Managing Director, said the company aims to sell around 5,000 – 6,000 units of the Gloster SUV on annual basis.
In terms of size, the MG Gloster SUV will be bigger to Jeep Grand Cherokee and Land Cruiser Prado. The new MG premium 7-seater SUV is 5,005mm long, 1,932mm wide and 1,875mm tall. The Grand Cherokee measures 4846mm in length, 1954mm in width and 1749mm in height, the Land Cruiser Prado is 4760mm long, 1885mm wide and 1880mm tall. The Gloster, which is the re-badged Maxus D90, will source its power from a new 2.0L turbocharged diesel and a 2,0L turbo petrol engine. While the oil burner will put out a top power of 218bhp with 480Nm, the gasoline motor will deliver 224bhp with 360Nm.
For performing transmission duties, the SUV will have a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. There will be a 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system with a low range transfer case. Styling of the new MG SUV is quite rugged with muscular stance. Some of its interesting design elements include a black octagonal grille with a large signature badge integrated in the centre, dual-tone bumper, adaptive LED headlamps, large dual-tone wheels ranging from 17-inch-21-inch, blacked out B and C pillars, skid plate and black roof rails. Interior of the Gloster will be packed with lots of comfort goodies and advanced safety equipment. It could be offered with two seating configurations – 7-seats and 8-seats.
