Fastest Production Car To Lap BIC ‘Mercedes AMG GT-R’ Launched in India

2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R derives its power from a twin turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that’s good for 577bhp.

Mercedes-Benz has finally introduced the world-renowned AMG GTR and GTR supercars in India. While the Mercedes AMG GTR is being offered at Rs 2.23 crore, the GT Roadster comes with a price tag of Rs 2.19 crore (all, ex-showroom Delhi). This is the fourth AMG model from the German carmaker this year. Touted as ‘Beast of the Green Hell’, the AMG GT R performance recently set a new record at BIC (Buddha International Circuit) with a lap time of 2 mins 09.853 seconds. Over 0.05 seconds faster in its outing at the BCI track, the AMG GT-R has now beaten the Mercedes SLS AMG that clocked the fastest lap in 2 minis 14.521 seconds in March, 2013. The speed test was organised by FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India), and the Mercedes AMG GT R was driven by AMG Driver Christian Hohenadel.

Power for this performance-oriented Mercedes comes from a twin turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 (M177) engine that churns out a peak power of 577bhp. This makes it around 75bhp more powerful than the previous GT S. The turbocharged motor generates a maximum torque of 700Nm between 1,900rpm – 5,500rpm. This high-performance athlete can mark 0-100kmph sprints in just 3.6 seconds, while maintaining a top speed of 318kmph. On the other hand, the AMG GT Roadster with the same engine delivers 476bhp and 630Nm of torque. It takes 4 seconds to achieve 100kmph from standstill. Transmission duties on the supercar are taken care of by a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Mercedes AMG GTR India Exterior Design

Built on AMG design idiom of “Dynamic Presence”, the 2017 Mercedes AMG GT-R features new AMG Panamericana grille with 15 chrome-plated vertical fins, low-slung front section, ‘shark nose’, wide front slitter at the front end. Other design highlights include lightweight forged wheels with cup tyres, new wheel arch liners with special cooling air slits, large rear aerofoil, new rear design with double diffuser, etc.  The car has new active aerodynamic profile in the underbody that improves its drag coefficient and performance. Its active air management system has vertical electronically controlled louvers situated in the lower area just behind the front fascia. These louvers get closed at top speed and during braking and cornering at high speed.

The supercar is assembled with exclusive lightweight 10-spoke wheels shod with 10.0Jx19 ET56 and 12.0Jx20 ET52 front and rear tyres respectively. The roof of the car is made up of high-grade carbon. Interior design of the 2017 AMG GTR is heavily inspired by motorsport. For the first time, Mercedes has used the standard-fit active rear-wheel steering on the 2017 AMG GT-R. This system offers a perfect combination of stability and agility. What further enhance its track performance are AMG traction control, electronically controlled limited slip differential on the rear axle, wider front and rear wings.

The car has extremely AMG sports bucket seats with Nappa leather and DINAMICA microfiber upholstery. The yellow seat belts, dials with yellow highlights, special controls and AMG Interior Piano Lacquer package are option on the race car. Mercedes AMG GTR India Brakes & Suspension System

The high-performance AMG GTR features 390mm internally ventilated and perforated brakes discs on the front axle and 360mm on the rear axle. This system ensures high-fade resistance and great deceleration. A ceramic high-performance composite braking system is an optional offering. Damping duties on the car are carried out by wishbones, steering knuckles and hub carriers upfront and forged aluminium rear units. This new AMG coil-over suspension comes with the AMG ride control continuously variable, adaptive damping system that can be controlled by AMG Dynamic select drive modes or AMG drive unit.
