Mercedes-Benz Records Highest Ever Q2 & Half Yearly Sales

Major sales contributor remains the Mercedes E-Class sedan, especially its recently-launched long wheelbase version.

The first half of 2017 has been great for the German luxury carmaker – Mercedes-Benz – in India. The company has registered its best ever sales in the second quarter and the first half of the year. In the April-June 2017 period, the automaker recorded its best ever sales of 3,521 units accounting a year-on-year growth of 18%. While in the first six months (January – June) of this year, Mercedes-Benz sold 7171 units registering an annual growth of 8.7%.

Major sales contributor remains the Mercedes E-Class sedan, especially its recently-launched long wheelbase version. The saloon was the top selling model for the company from January to June 2017. In Mercedes’ SUV lineup, the GLC was the highest selling SUV, followed by the GLE. In the half year, the German carmaker’s SUV portfolio also grew the highest by 31% improving the brand’s overall growth.

Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “The luxury SUV segment comprising GLA, GLC, GLE and the GLS grew strongly and recorded a robust 31 per cent growth in January-June of 2017.”

“The successful run of the new generation cars, in particular the CLA and the GLA continues across markets and added new young customers to the brand’s increasing customer base”, he further added.

The company recently rolled out its seventh product of the year – Mercedes Benz GLA facelift. Due to the new GST (Goods and Services) norms, the crossover gets cheaper up to Rs 3.8 lakh than the previous model. While the pre-facelift model was priced between Rs 32.75 lakh – Rs 38.51 lakh, the updated version comes within the range of Rs 30.65 lakh and Rs 36.75 lakh. Mercedes-Benz was among the first automakers that begun passing on GST benefits to their customers.
