Likely to be launched in mid-2020, the upcoming Maruti’s premium SUV will challenge the Hyundai Creta.

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the new-generation Wagon R, which will challenge the newly launched Hyundai Santro. The Indo-Japanese is offering products in most of the segments where its Korean rival – Hyundai has presence. Though, it does not have a presence in the mid-sized SUV space which is currently ruled by Hyundai Creta. Things are likely to be changed soon as a new media report claims that Maruti’s answer to Creta will arrive in 2020.

The report further claims that Maruti Suzuki will launch an all-new made-for-India SUV to challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks and Tata Harrier. Speaking to AutoCar India, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO Maruti Suzuki said, “We are studying that type of vehicle, a big-size SUV. We are discussing here and in Japan to see whether we can develop it.” Also See – Suzuki Vitara To Tata H7X – 4 Upcoming 7-Seater SUVs In India

The new Maruti SUV is expected to be based on the next-gen Vitara, which is also arriving in 2020-21. Likely to be around 4.3 meters long, the new SUV will have upright and imposing presence. This new Creta rival is expected to have a boxy and muscular shape.

The new Maruti Suzuki SUV will be available with 2 BSVI compliant engines – a new 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol and the new 1.5-litre diesel. The diesel engine will also power the Ciaz, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza. This new SUV is likely to be sold through premium NEXA dealerships. It will be equipped with all the features and safety equipments currently available in other SUVs in this segment. Previous media reports claim that the Maruti will launch the 7-seater SUV based on the next-gen Vitara. It is expected that the new SUV will be available in both 5- and 7-seat layouts.

The new Maruti Suzuki SUV is likely to be launched by mid-2020, which is ahead of the launch of the next-gen Creta. We believe that Maruti Suzuki could showcase the concept version of the SUV at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
