Maruti Ertiga Cross 6-seater and new Alto launching this year

The new Maruti Alto hatchback will be based on the new HEARTECT platform.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker is all set to introduce the new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine will power the new Ertiga, Ciaz sedan and the S-Cross crossover. In fact, dealers have started taking pre-orders for the Ciaz 1.5L model. Not just this new engine, Maruti Suzuki will launch 2 all-new cars in the country this year.

The company is working on the next-generation Alto hatchback, which has already been spotted while testing in India. Suzuki will showcase the global-spec new-gen Alto in October, 2019; however, the India-spec model will be different from the global model. The new-gen Maruti Alto is expected to be launched in the second half of 2019, most probably around Diwali.

It will be based on the new-gen HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new Wagon R. The hatchback will meet the upcoming new safety and crash test norms. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and seat-belt reminder will come as standard. If media reports are to be believed, the small hatchback is also likely to get new smaller capacity turbocharged petrol engine. Both manual and AMT versions are likely to be on offer. The company is also working on the sportier version of the Ertiga MPV, which is expected to be in mid-2019. This model will come with new sport body kit, which is likely to include new pronounced grille, reworked bumper, new fog lamp assembly, flared wheel arches, roof rails and black plastic cladding, etc.

The new Maruti Ertiga Cross will be sold through NEXA premium dealership and won’t be available in the ARENA dealership. The sportier model will be offered in six-seat configurations with captain seats for all 3 rows. The Cross will be available with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol with SHVS mild-hybrid and an in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel.
