Maruti Ciaz aka Alivio launch near; SX4 production halts

Suzuki Alivio aka Maruti Ciaz unveiled

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its much-anticipated Ciaz aka Alivio sedan in the Indian car market. If media reports to believe, the production of the SX4 sedan has been stopped and dealers across the nation are selling the final batches of the sedan. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Ciaz sedan will come as a replacement for the SX4. The near production version of the sedan has recently been unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show as Suzuki Alivio. The vehicle is likely to be launched by July ahead of the festive season. The trial production of the sedan has already been commenced at the company’s Manesar production unit.

The new Maruti Ciaz will compete against the likes of new Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Renault Scala, Fiat Linea and soon to be launched Ford Fiesta facelift. The new Honda City is currently ruling the C-segment that defeated the Verna since its introduction in December 2013. The new Alivio sedan looks more modern and appealing compared to the aging SX4. The SX4 sedan failed to attract buyers; however, this product has competent powertrains and spacious cabin. Moreover, the SX4 sedan lacks when it comes to premiumness as its competitors like City and Verna comes with high quality interiors and advanced features. (Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Vs Hyundai Verna)

The new Ciaz sedan features trapezoidal grille with chrome inserts that accommodates the Suzuki logo. Its grille is complemented by large angular shaped projector headlamps which offer sporty character to this sedan. The bumper has wide air dams and a pair of fog lamps. It has aerodynamic creases that run all around the car.

With Alivio/Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki India aims to improve its tally in the populated mid-sized sedan segment. The company has worked on its styling front; however, the engine specs are still unclear. We expect it to get the 1.3-litre Multi-Jet diesel engine and 1.6-litre petrol engine.
