The new Suzuki 1.2-litre K12C DualJet engine is expected to produce around 90bhp and 120Nm of torque.

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is testing the Baleno petrol with mild-hybrid technology in India. A new media report claims that the company will introduce the 1.2-litre DualJet engine in the Indian market. The Maruti Baleno will be the brand’s first model to receive this new dualjet engine.

The new 1.2L DualJet engine is basically a successor of the current K12B motor, which powers the Swift, Dzire and Baleno in India. Codenamed K12C, the DualJet engine was first introduced in the International-spec Swift in 2015. This new engine is more efficient, more powerful and cleaner than the current 1.2L K12B engine. The outgoing Baleno petrol delivers 21.4kmpl.

The K12C Dualjet engine utilises 2 fuel injector per cylinder instead of one. This means that each of the eight intake ports in the 16-valve engine comes with its own injector, which translates into more precise control and finer fuel atomisation. In this configuration, the injector can be positioned closer to the back of the intake valve that further enhances the atomisation and improves efficiency. The report claims that the new K12C DualJet engine will be benefitted with redesigned intake ports, combustion chambers and piston crowns. Adding to it, the engine will have oil cooling jets for the pistons, a new exhaust gas recirculation system and the Suzuki’s mild-hybrid system. The 1.2-litre DualJet engine will receive the single battery Smart Hybrid system instead of the dual-battery setup of the Ciaz’s 1.5-litre petrol engine. Also See – Tata Altroz Vs Maruti Baleno

The new Suzuki 1.2-litre K12C DualJet engine is expected to produce around 90bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 120Nm, which is around 7bhp more powerful and 5Nm torquier than the outgoing K12B unit. It is expected that the new engine will be offered on the Delta and Zeta variants of the Baleno. It will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The report further claims that the Maruti Baleno with dual-jet engine will be launched in May 2019. Besides this new powertrain, the Maruti Baleno will be offered with the existing set of engines – 1.2L K12B petrol, a 1.0L Boosterjet petrol and a 1.3L diesel. The new DualJet petrol engine could also power the Swift and Dzire in near future.
