Jeep 526 Compact SUV Confirmed For India – XUV300, EcoSport Rival
Fiat Chrysler Automobile plans 2 new SUVs – a 7-seater SUV and a sub-4 meter SUV – for the Indian market.
We reported earlier that Jeep will launch a 7-seater SUV based on the Compass SUV in India in late 2020. According to a new media report, Fiat Chrysler Automobile plans 2 new SUVs – a 7-seater SUV and a sub-4 meter SUV – for the Indian market.
Speaking to AutoCar India, Kevin Flynn, CEO and MD, FCA India confirmed that the company looking at two more vehicles effectively for the Indian market. One is a B-SUV, positioned below Compass, and the other one is a D-SUV, a three-row product. He further added that Jeep’s objective was to have “a showroom full of models” for India.
The Jeep B-SUV will be a sub-4 meter SUV and will be priced aggressively in the market. Codenamed Jeep 526, the new SUV will be smaller than the current Renegade. It is expected to share the platform with the next Fiat Panda 4×4. Unlike existing sub-4 meter SUVs, the Jeep B-SUV will have real capability and will have real off-road skills. The Jeep 7-seater SUV, codenamed Low-D will be based on the Compass’s monocoque-platform. The SUV will have off-road ability. It will be pitched against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Kodiaq. The 7-seater SUV could also impact the sales of the SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
The new Jeep sub-4 meter and the 7-seater SUVs will be manufactured at the FCA’s Ranjangaon facility near Pune. The new models will also be exported to select International markets. FCA also plans to increase the production capacity from the current 1.60 lakh to 2.40 lakh. Jeep is gearing up for the launch the next-gen Wrangler, which has been spotted multiple times in India. The company will also upgrade the Compass to BS6 emission norms.
