With the announcement of new FAME II Scheme, Automakers have fast paced the development of electric cars for Indian market. The Government of India has announced Rs 10000 crore for the new FAME II scheme for the next 3 years. Under the new announcement, Government will set-up 2,700 charging stations in metros, other million plus cities, smart cities and cities of hilly states. Keeping SUVs rising demand in mind, automakers are exploring Electric SUVs for the Indian market. Here is a list of 3 upcoming new electric SUvs in India in the next 12 months –
Mahindra S210 Electric – Homegrown automaker, Mahindra has officially announced that it is working on the electric version of the XUV300 compact SUV. Codenamed S210, the electric SUV is scheduled to make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The S201 EV is expected to be launched in mid-2020. Its Korean partner, SsangYong is also working on the electric version of the Tivoli SUV. The XUV300 EV could share the mechanical bits with the Korean sibling. Media reports claim that the EV could offer a range of 250km on a single charge under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). It will accelerate to 100kmph from zero in just 11 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 150kmph. Continue reading
Hyundai Kona Electric – Korean automaker, Hyundai will officially enter into the electric vehicle space of India this year. The company will launch the global Kona EV in the second half of 2019. Initially, the Hyundai Kona electric SUV will be brought as CKD unit and assembled at the company’s Chennai plant. Hyundai aims to launch 2 versions of the Kona SUV. The SUV will come with 2 battery options – a 39kW and a 64kW – delivering an electric range of 312km and 482km respectively. With an electric powertrain, the Kona will be able to deliver a maximum speed of 155kmph. The carmaker claims it can do 0-100kmph in 9.7 seconds. Continue reading
MG eZS Electric – MG Motors has officially announced that its second model for India will be an all-new electric SUV. Called the MG eZS, the electric SUV could arrive in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit and will be assembled at the SAIC’s Halol plant in Gujarat. The company is also planning to assemble the battery for the EV in India. The eZS electric motor is capable of producing close to 150bhp and achieves 0-50kmph in just 3.1 seconds.
