Honda India’s First Electric Car Could Be An SUV With 150-200km Range

Honda will introduce its first electric vehicle in India by 2023-2024.

The Japanese carmaker, Honda had confirmed that it will foray into electric vehicle segment globally. The company’s first electric car will be the production version of the Honda Urban EV concept that will go on sale in China sometime next year. According to a latest report, Honda Cars India (HCI) is planning to launch its first electric vehicle by 2023-2024. It could be a B-segment vehicle or an SUV offering an electric range of 150km-200km. The carmaker will also introduce its highly popular mid-size City sedan with hybrid powertrain. Though, its launch timeline is still under the wraps.

Honda’s Japan-based Electric Vehicle Development Division R&D facility will solely take care of development of EVs. The carmaker aims to achieve 65 percent of its total sales from electric vehicles by 2030. In India, the major concern for the carmaker will be the lack of charging infrastructure, affordability and cruising range. Read – Honda Brio To Get Electric Engine?

Talking to ET, Gaku Nakanishi, Honda Cars India president, said “In order to achieve higher penetration for EVs, the issues of range anxiety, charging infrastructure and affordability have to be addressed. In three years, environment-friendly (vehicles) will come from Honda”.
