High-Performance Volkswagen T-Roc GT Planned For India

Volkswagen T-Roc GT Specs

The German carmaker recently introduced the all-new Volkswagen T-Roc SUV in India at Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in a single variant, the SUV comes via CBU (Completely Built Up) route under the government’s new export norms. The carmaker is planning to assemble the vehicle locally via CKD kits in the future. According to a fresh media report, VW is considering a performance version of the T-Roc SUV for the Indian market.

The performance-oriented VW T-Roc will be named – Volkswagen T-Roc GT. It will essentially be the VW T-Roc R that’s sold in global market. Once the standard T-Roc will move to the local assembly, the carmaker will import sporty variant and powerful engines in small batches.

The SUV’s GT variant might be offered with the 206bhp, 1.8L TSI petrol or 294bhp, 2.0L TSI petrol engine. While the former does duty in the global-spec Polo GT TSI, the latter one is available on the newly-launched VW Tiguan AllSpace (but in detuned form).

Globally, the Volkswagen T-Roc R is offered with a 2.0L turbo diesel engine that’s good enough for 296bhp and 400Nm of torque. The SUV comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a 4Motion AWD (all-wheel-drive) system). It accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds and promises a maximum speed of 250kmph. An automatic DSG transmission will be standard on the Volkswagen T-Roc GT.

The performance-focused Volkswagen T-Roc GT will hit Indian roads sometime next year. The report further says that Volkswagen will bring in “special versions of every car”.
