7 All-New Cars to Debut in January 2023 – 3 Maruti Models

The Indian automobile industry will kick start the new year with a bang as Asia’s biggest motor show – Delhi Auto Expo – will return in January 2023. The event will witness several new concept cars’ unveiling, new and updated model launches. Here’re some key details of the upcoming new cars, which are expected to make their India debut in the month of January. The list includes 3 Maruti Suzuki models and cars from Hyundai, Toyota, MG and Honda.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross

Maruti Futuro SUV Concept

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross will be a new compact SUV from the Indo-Japanese automaker in the country. Codenamed Maruti YTB, the model is reported to make its first public appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023. It could be showcased in its near-to-production avatar. The Baleno Cross will underpin Suzuki’s Global-C platform and might mark return of the brand’s Boosterjet petrol engine. This time around, the gasoline motor will comply with the BS6 emission norms. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Indo-Japanese automaker will also showcase the 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny at the motor event. The model is likely to enter into production early next year and its launch might happen in the second half of 2023. The 5-door Maruti Jimny will be retailed via Nexa dealerships. Under the hood, the off-road SUV will feature the new 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid tech. It will deliver power close to 101bhp and 137Nm of torque. The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is reported to make its first public appearance in January at the Delhi Auto Expo. The hatchback will receive comprehensive design changes, feature upgrades along with the hybrid powertrain. If reports are to be believed, the new Swift could be offered with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2L petrol with mild hybrid tech powertrains. The sedan’s updated version could be made available with the 115bhp, 1.5L petrol, 120bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol and 115bhp, 1.5L diesel engine options. Speculations are on rife that the 2023 Hyundai Verna might be offered with the mild hybrid tech that consists of auto start/stop tech and regenerative braking system. Toyota Innova HyCross

2023 Toyota Innova Hybrid

The all-new Toyota Innova HyCross will make its global debut in November 2022. The hybrid MPV is reported to go on sale in India in January 2023. It will be designed on the lighter and more advanced monocoque architecture instead of the ladder frame chassis. Powertrain setup of the Innova HyCross might include a 2.0L petrol engine with heavily localized hybrid technology. It will come with FWD system and have a flat floor at the rear. MG City EV is reported to be the name of the brand’s upcoming new compact electric car. With expected price of around Rs 11 lakh – Rs 15 lakh, the new MG EV will target Tata’s existing electric cars including Tiago, Tigor and Nexon. The company will source batteries for its mass-market EV locally to achieve competitive pricing. The City EV will be re-badged version of the Wuling Air EV that’s sold in the Chinese market. The Japanese automaker has planned two new SUVs for the Indian market. While one of them will challenge the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, the other one will take on the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. The upcoming new Honda compact SUV is likely to come wit the 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine with Atkinson cycle and two electric motor. The powertrain setup will be sourced from the City hybrid sedan. It could also be made available with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol motor borrowed from the City RS and Civic sedan.
