Toyota Innova HyCross – Debut In Nov, India Launch In Jan 2023

Toyota Innova HyCross will be the next model to roll out under the stable of the Japanese automaker in India. The model is slated to make its world debut next month (November 2022) in Indonesia, where it will be sold as ‘Toyota Innova Zenix’. In India, the three-row MPV is reported to come in early 2023 (possibly in January). It will be the brand’s second hybrid model in the country. Compared to the existing Innova Crysta, the Innova HyCross will be bigger and have different platform, design and powertrain.

For power, the new Innova HyCross MPV will use the 2.0L petrol engine with heavily localized hybrid technology sourced from the Hyryder. The latter comes with Toyota’s TNGA Atkinson Cycle that’s good enough for 92bhp and 122Nm. The motor is paired to an electric motor delivering power worth 79bhp and 141Nm of torque. It’s combined power output stands at 115bhp. The powertrain is available with Toyota’s e-drive transmission.

As mentioned above, the Toyota Innova HyCross will underpin the more advanced and significantly lighter monocoque architecture than the ladder frame chassis. That means, there will be a flat floor at the rear ensuring more cabin space. What will further differentiate it from the Innova Crysta is the FWD (front-wheel drive) system. Features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, a 360 degree camera, wireless charging, multiple USB ports and electronic parking brake could be exclusively offered on the range-topping variants. The MPV will have captain chairs in the middle row that might come with an “ottoman function”.

The overall length of the upcoming new Toyota Innova HyCross will be around 4.7 metres. The MPV will sit on a 2,850mm long wheelbase. Some of its key design elements will be the familiar front grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, horizontally positioned taillamps with LED brake lights, halogen turn signals and large alloy wheels.
