5 Popular Sub-4 Metre SUVs To Get New-Generation Updates, Facelifts

India’s top 5 popular sub-4 metre SUVs are ready to receive updates in near future. While two models (Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon) will enter into their new-generation, the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Toyota Urban Cruiser will get mid-life updates. Here’s a brief on the upcoming new models.

New-Gen Maruti Brezza

Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV is ready to witness a generation change by April 20222. The new-generation model will be called Maruti Brezza that’s reported to come with improved styling and several segment-first features along with more frugal engine and a new 6-speed automatic gearbox. Rumour has it that the automaker will introduce the 104bhp, 1.5L K15B petrol engine with the stronger hybrid system. The existing 4-speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a 6-speed AT unit. The SUV will sit on Suzuki’s Global C platform that’s already used in the global-spec Vitara.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Facelift

The updated Toyota Urban Cruiser will come after the new-generation Brezza. Most of the cosmetic changes and feature upgrades are likely to be similar to the new Brezza. Its platform and design language will remain intact. The model might get a newly-designed grille, headlamps, bumpers and taillamps. Inside, there could be a new and bigger infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, a SIM-based connected car suite, a factory-fitted sunroof, paddle shifters and more.  The SUV will use the same 1.5L K15B petrol engine, but have stronger hybrid system.

The new Hyundai Venue facelift is reported to arrive by mid 2022. Its latest spy images suggest that the compact SUV will receive new alloy wheels and taillamps. Major cosmetic changes are likely to be made at the front end. It will feature a new parametric grille similar to the new-gen Tucson, new faux silver coloured skid plate and updated bumper. The new Venue is likely to be offered with a new touchscreen infotainment system, updated dashboard, wireless charger, new BlueLink connected car tech, 6 speaker audio system and new upholstery. It will continue to feature the 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L CRDi diesel engine options.

Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that the new XUV300 facelift will hit showrooms in third quarter of FY2022. The subcompact SUV will gain the major update under the hood. This time around, the automaker will introduce a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine that’s benefited with direct injection and cylinder heads with integrated exhaust manifolds. The gasoline motor makes a top power of 130bhp and 230Nm of torque. A few significant updates will also be made inside the cabin. The 2022 Mahindra XUV300 facelift will come with a new infotainment unit featuring new interface and updated Viseon-sourced AdrenoX infotainment system.

The new-generation Tata Nexon is likely to see a release sometime next year. Ditching the existing platform, the new model will underpin the brand’s Alfa (Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture) platform. After the Altroz and Punch, it will be third Tata model to use this modular architecture. The existing 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines are likely to be more refined. Both motors are reported to get mild hybrid technology. The compact SUV might also be offered with a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox that will be first introduced on the Altroz premium hatchback model lineup.
