Tata Nexon has been a volume generator for the company ever since its launch in 2017. In January 2020, the model received its first facelift with minor cosmetic and feature upgrades and BS6-compliant engines. The compact SUV registered its highest ever monthly sales of 13,816 units in January 2022 against 8,225 units of the same month last year. With an aim to further boost its sales, the automaker is planning to give a generation change to the Nexon.
While there is no official word on its launch timeline, the new Tata Nexon is reported to hit roads sometime in 2023. The compact SUV is likely to come with improved designed, upmarket interior and more refined engines. One of the major changes will be made to its underpinning. The new-generation model will be designed on the Alfa (Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture) platform, which is already used in the Altroz and Punch.
Reports suggest that the new Nexon will the same 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines. Though, both motors will be more refined and could be boosted with a mild hybrid technology. If it happens, the SUV’s new model will deliver better fuel efficiency. With mild hybrid system, it will also comply with the upcoming stringent CAFÉ regulations and updated BS6 emission standards.
Tata might introduce a proper automatic gearbox to the Nexon model lineup. It could get a new dual-clutch automatic transmission that will also be offered on the Altroz hatchback. Compared to the existing AMT variants, the new DCT automatic models will be more expensive.
In other updates, the company is gearing up to launch the Tata Nexon CNG variant, which was recently spotted testing. Tata Motors is also working on the Nexon based Coupe mid-size SUV measuring around 4.3 meters in length. It will be brand’s first pure electric car that’s likely to come with the updated Ziptron electric powertrain.
