2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza Petrol Caught Testing
Maruti Vitara Brezza has been the best-selling SUV in India for quite a while; however, things changed with the arrival of the Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV300. Another big reason behind the decline in sales is lack of petrol engine option. The current model is available in a single diesel engine option, featuring a 1.3-litre DDis engine that produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. All the competitors are available in petrol and diesel guise.
Maruti Suzuki has already announced to stop producing and selling diesel cars post BS6 emission norms implementation in April 2020. The Brezza will also receive the much-needed petrol engine option. The company is also readying the facelift version of the Brezza, which will come with cosmetic design changes and upgraded interior. The SUV was caught testing without wearing the DDiS badge on the fenders.
It is expected that the Maruti Vitara Brezza facelift will receive the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the Ertiga, Ciaz and XL6. Coupled with Suzuki dual-battery mild-hybrid system, the 1.5L engine pushes out 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic.
Going by the spy images, it is visible that the updated Vitara Brezza facelift will come with revised exterior styling including new bumpers. The SUV gets new housing for the round-shaped fog lamps, projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights and slightly updated grille. At the back, the Brezza facelift will feature horizontal wrap-around LED tail-lamps, high-mounted stop lamps and chrome boot applique.
The cabin of the Maruti Vitara Brezza facelift remains largely identical, except for the new Suzuki Studio Smartplay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. With all the updates and addition of petrol engine, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will aim to regain the pole position which it lost to Hyundai Venue.
