The new-generation Mahindra Thar is surely one of the much-awaited launches of this year. The carmaker has already confirmed that the official bookings for the off-road SUV will begin from 2nd October, 2020. Here’re all important details of the new Mahindra Thar 2020.
2020 Mahindra Thar Variants, Colours
The new Mahindra Thar 2020 will come in 7 variants spread across AX and LX trims. Buyers will have 3 roof top options (Hard, Soft and Convertible) and 6 exterior colours to choose from, namely, Red Rage, Aquamarine, Napoli Black, Galaxy Grey, Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige. One must note that the roof top and paint schemes will vary variant-wise.
New Mahindra Thar Prices (Expected)
While official prices of the new Mahindra Thar will be announced tomorrow, the off-road SUV is expected to be priced as low as Rs 9.75 lakh for the entry-level variant. The petrol variants might be offered in price range of Rs 9.75 lakh – Rs 12.49 lakh, and the diesel models are expected to cost between Rs 10.49 lakh – Rs 12.25 lakh.
2020 Mahindra Thar Engines, Gearboxes
Mahindra’s popular off-road SUV will be first time offered with petrol powertrain and an automatic gearbox. The SUV’s petrol version will feature a new 2.0L mStallion turbocharged motor that was showcased at this year’s Auto Expo. The gasoline unit pushes out a claimed power of 150bhp and 320Nm of torque. The diesel model will use a 2.2L turbocharged engine making 130bhp and 320Nm of torque. Both motors will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. Mileage figures of the new Thar are yet to be revealed by the carmaker.
New Mahindra Thar 2020 Off-Roading Features
The second-generation Thar is claimed to offer better off-roading performance, thanks to its new, advanced equipment. The SUV comes with 42 degree approach angle, 27 degree ramp over angle and 37 degree departure angle, which are better than before. In fact, the carmaker has increased its ground clearance (226mm) and equipped it with all-terrain tyres (largest in the segment). The new independent upfront and multi-link rear suspension, mechanical locking differential and shift-on-the-fly 4X manual shift transfer case further enhance its off-road capabilities. The SUV has a water wading depth of 650mm.
2020 Mahindra Thar Key Features
Mahindra has equipped the new-generation Thar with lots of advanced goodies and some of them have been offered for the very first time. The list includes front facing rear seats, factory-fitted hard top, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity , a twin-pod instrument cluster with colour MID, automatic climate control, cruise control, rear disc brakes and LED DRLs. In fact, the SUV now offers more standard safety fitments than before.
New Mahindra Thar Accessories
The new-generation Thar will come with a range of exterior and interior accessories divided into four categories – Styling, Comfort & Convenience, Technology and Safety. There will also be an Adventure Series accessories categorized into Vehicle Protection, Camping, GoPro Adventure Camera, Maintenance, and Apparel.
