The second-generation Mahindra Thar recently made its debut with more rugged styling, better equipped interior and new powertrains. In fact, it’s wider and has squatter proportions than the previous model. The new Thar comes with the new 2.0L mStallion petrol (150bhp/320Nm) and 2.2L mHawk diesel (130/300Nm) engine options that can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The off-road SUV receives several goodies for the first time including LED DRLs, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, roof mounted speakers, factory-fitted hard top, electronic stability program with roll over mitigation and more. Scheduled to launch on 2nd October 2020, the 2020 Mahindra Thar has witnessed a few mechanical upgrades making it a more capable off-roader. 1. Better angles
The all-new Thar has an approach angle of 42 degrees, ramp-over angle of 27 degrees and departure angle of 37 degrees. While the approach and departure angles help climbing a steep hill/obstacle and down slope respectively, the ramp over angle enables it drive over rough terrains without the apex of the obstacles touching any point of the vehicle’s underbody. 2. New suspension setup
Built on a new ladder-frame chassis, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with an all-new suspension setup enhancing its driving comfort. The SUV gets independent upfront and multi-link rear suspension replacing the rigid, non-independent leaf-spring rear unit.
3. Water wading capacity

4. Mechanical locking differential
Mahindra has equipped the new-generation Thar with mechanical locking differential system that provides better traction without any intervention. It also aids to the vehicle’s towing capacity and off-road performance.
5. Shift-on-the-Fly 4X manual shift transfer case
The new Thar’s Shift-on-the-Fly manual shift transfer case allows driver to select two or four wheel drive operations. It has lightweight construction that only reduces vehicle’s weight, but enhances its fuel efficiency as well. 6. Washable interior
