Mahindra Thar is all set to witness a generation change on 2nd October, 2020. The carmaker has confirmed that the off-road SUV will come in AX and LX trims with both petrol and diesel engine options. While its prices will be officially announced next month, a leaked picture reveals variant-wise prices of the model.
As per the leaked scan, the 2020 Mahindra Thar lineup will include a total of 7 variants – 4 AX with soft top and 3 LX with hard top. The entry-level AX manual with fixed soft top petrol and diesel models will be priced at Rs 9.75 lakh and Rs 10.49 lakh respectively.

While the AX manual petrol with convertible soft top will cost Rs 10.25 lakh, the AX diesel with optional convertible soft top will be offered at Rs 10.99 lakh. On the other hand, the LX diesel manual and automatic 4-seater hard top versions will be available at Rs 11.20 lakh and Rs 12.25 lakh respectively. As per the leaked information these are introductory prices that are bound to be increased later.
The new Mahindra Thar petrol will be powered by a new 2.0L mStallion turbo motor that’s good enough for 150bhp and 320Nn. THe diesel model source its power from a 2.2L turbo motor pushing out a maximum power of 130bhp and 320Nm. Both engines will be available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox along with the standard 6-speed manual transmission.
Buyers will have 6 exterior paint schemes to choose from, namely, Red Rage, Napoli Black, Mystic Copper, Galaxy Grey, Rocky Beige and Aquamarine. One must note that the colour schemes will vary variant-wise. The new-generation Thar comes with improved styling, better equipped interior and enhance off-road capabilities.
