Mahindra & Mahindra recently unveiled the second-generation Thar with significantly improved design, updated interior, new powertrains and better off-road capabilities. Official prices of the SUV will be announced on 2nd October, 2020. Ahead of its launch, the carmaker has revealed its variants, features and engine details. The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be offered in three variants – AX, AX (O) and LX – packed with petrol and diesel engines.
While the petrol variants will use a new 2.0L mStallion turbo motor (150bhp/320Nm), the diesel model will be equipped with a 2.2L turbo unit (130bhp/320Nm). For the first time, the Thar will be made available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox along with the standard 6-speed manual transmission.
The all-new Thar will come in a choice of 6 exterior colour schemes – Red Rage, Aquamarine, Napoli Black, Galaxy Grey, Mystic Copper and Rocky Beige. One must note that the fully-loaded LX AT petrol and diesel (convertible and hard top) variants will be exclusively offered in Rockey Beige, Galaxy Grey, Aquamarine and Mystic Copper shades. The Red Rage paint scheme will be available in AX MT diesel (soft top), AX (O) MT petrol and diesel (convertible and hard top), LX AT petrol (hard top and convertible), LX MT and AT diesel (convertible and hard top) variants. The AX (O) manual (convertible) LX automatic (hard top and convertible) petrol variants and AX manual (soft top), AX (O) manual (convertible and hard top), LX manual (hard top) and LX automatic (convertible) diesel models will be offered in Napoli Black colour.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar SUV comes with manual shift part-time 4WD with high and low reduction gear. It has Independent double wishbone front suspension with coil over damper and stabilizer bar and multilink solid rear axle with coil spring and stabilizer bar. The better approach, departure and ramp-up angles, high ground clearance and improved water wading capacity further enhance its off-road performance.
