2020 Mahindra Thar Interior Revealed In New Spy Images
The next-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to make global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo
The 2020 Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. A new set of images have hit the internet, showing Thar undergoing emission testing. Adding to it, the new spy images completely exposed the interior of the 2020 Mahindra Thar.
The next-generation Mahindra Thar comes with an all-new dashboard, but the basic layout is largely similar to the current model. There is a vacant space on the central console to accommodate a music system. It is expected that the top-spec model will also have a provision of adding a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The AC vents and other controls are circular in shape.
Instead of the dual-tone black-beige, the 2020 Mahindra Thar gets all-black interior scheme. The steering wheel is the same unit offered in the TUV300. The steering also has controls for music system. Adding to it, the SUV also gets power windows and the controls are positioned right behind the gear lever. It also has new instrument console with a large MID in centre and twin dials on either side. The next-gen Mahindra Thar will also get the factory-fitted hardtop version. This model will come with front-facing seats instead of the side facing seats in the current model. The rear windows are also power adjustable. It will continue to be offered as a 3-door model.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be powered by a newly developed BS6 compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which will also power the next Scorpio and XUV500 in different states of tunes. While powering the Thar, this engine is likely to offer around 140bhp of power and over 350Nm of torque. The spy images reveal that the SUV gets the 6-speed manual transmission. It will be offered with a 4WD option with a low-range gearbox.
In terms of styling, the new Mahindra Thar retains the original Classic Jeep CJ-like profile. However, the new model is wider and bigger than the outgoing model. The SUV’s front and rear design will be updated to meet the upcoming pedestrian safety norms. The next-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to make global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, while launch is likely in March 2020.
