The next-generation Mahindra Thar is expected to be launched in the second half of 2019.

Mahindra has been testing the next-generation Thar lifestyle SUV for quite some time on Indian roads. This time, the SUV has been spotted on the outskirts of Chennai. The pictures reveal that the new model comes with production-ready body panels, new bumpers and an all-new soft-top. The new Mahindra Thar has grown in size and looks wider and broader than the outgoing model. The new Mahindra Thar gets the prominent wheel arches, while the fit and finish also seems better than the outgoing model.

The cabin of the new Mahindra Thar has also been partially revealed in new set of spy images. The vehicle gets an all-new interior, which is more feature-loaded and comfortable than the current car. The vehicle gets all-black dashboard featuring a large touchscreen at the centre. The entry-level variants will get a 2-DIN music system. The round-shaped air-con vents are positioned below the central unit. It gets all-new instrument console with two large dials for speedometer and tachometer, and MID positioned right between them. The multi-functional steering wheel seems shared with the TUV300.

The four-wheel-drive and low-range selector gets manual button. There are two cup holders ahead of the gear lever, a padded shelf above the glovebox, and large central console that runs between the front seats. The seats are all-new and features better cushioning for improved hold in off-road conditions. Mahindra engineers are also expected to work on improving the NVH levels of the new Thar.

The new-generation Mahindra Thar will be based on the GEN3 platform, which also underpins the current Scorpio and the TUV300. The vehicle will have new suspension set-up, which should improve the drivability on city roads. The new model will also compliant with the new safety and crash test norms. It will be fitted with driver side airbag, ABS with EBD, brake assist, rear parking sensor, seatbelt reminder and speed alert as standard.
