2020 Mahindra Thar Details Revealed; Debut At Auto Expo

The next-generation Mahindra Thar is likley to have its world premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo that will be held from 7th to 12th February in Greater Noida. We have already seen the all-new model of the SUV in multiple spy pictures, though the recent ones give a glimpse of its near production-ready version. The spotted prototype was equipped with the 18-inch alloy wheels and 285/65 R18 MRF Wanderer tyres.

In terms of design, features and engine, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be completely different from the existing model. The SUV will feature all-new body panels and come with a factory-fitted hard top and removable roof top (for the front row) option. Upfront, the Thar will receive a higher set bumper with integrated fog lamps.

Design bits such as round halogen headlamps and front fender-mounted turn indicators are likely to be carried over from the existing model. At the rear, the 2020 Thar will get newly-designed LED taillamps, revised bumper with additional lights.

Comprehensive changes will also be made to its interior. The 2020 Mahindra Thar will get a newly-designed dashboard along with four power windows (three-door hardtop version). Features such as gear knob, steering wheel, HVAC controls and seats will be carried over from the Mahindra Scorpio. The higher trim might get a touchscreen infotainment system.

Rumour has it that the new 2020 Mahindra Thar will come with 5-seats and 6-seats options. It will get driver airbag, ABS with EBD, a speed alert system, a seat belt reminder and rear parking sensors as standard safety features. The new Thar will also meet the crash test norms, enforced from 1st October, 2019.

 Powering the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be a BS6-compliant 2.2L diesel engine pushing out a maximum power of 140bhp. The SUV might also receive the XUV500’s 2.2L petrol powertrain. Initially, it will be made available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The automatic variant with 2WD and 4WD system will come at a later stage.
