2020 Jeep Wrangler SUV – 5 Big Changes
Jeep recently confirmed two new SUVs for the Indian market. The American SUV maker will foray into subcompact and fully-flagged SUV segments with Jeep 526 (codename) and a new 7-seater model respectively. The company will also introduce the new-generation models of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs. Here, we have listed 5 big changes that will be made to the 2020 Jeep Wrangler SUV.
1. New Name For Rubicon Variant
The top-spec trim of the new-generation Jeep Wrangler – Rubicon – could be named ‘Moab’. For people not in the known, the Jeep Wrangler Moab is retailed globally as the off-road variant of the SUV. Most of its styling cues and features are similar to the Rubicon, though it gets minor cosmetic changes including blacked out alloy wheels with off-road specific tyres and ‘Moab’ decals on the sides of the bonnet.
2. Significantly Lighter
The 2020 Jeep Wranglers is significantly lighter than its predecessor, thanks to its new JL platform and new aluminum body panel. While the body is still composed of steel, its bonnet, doors and fenders are now made of aluminum. The tail gate structure is made of lightweight magnesium. 3. More Evolved Design
Design and styling of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler is more evolved and refreshing. Similar to the original CJ5, it gets 7-slate grille with the curved slot, full LED headlamps with LED DRLs, newly-designed wider and vented fender flares, slightly lower tailgate mounted spare tyre, new LED taillamps, larger tailgate, a reversing camera and repositioned number plate.
4. Better Quality & Technology
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler has taken big leaps in terms of technology and material quality. The SUV gets a large touchscreen infotainment system with a high resolution and responsive interface. It also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with satellite navigation and radio. There is a large information screen in the instrument cluster showing important driving information. Features such as leather/cloth seat upholstery, black vinyl rollcage, newly-designed dashboard and red interior package further enhance its premium appeal. 5. New Powertrains
For the first time, the Jeep Wrangler gets a 2.2L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. It delivers 274PS with 400Nm of torque. The top-spec model uses the tried and tested 3.6L V6 naturally aspirated Pentastar engine. Both powertrains comes with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. Similar to the global model, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler will get a 2.2L diesel engine that’s good for 200PS and 488Nm.
