SUV/MPV market is growing at a tremendous pace in the country. Considering high demand of 6/7-seater models, several car manufacturers have planned new products across different price range. Here’re key details of the top 12 upcoming new 7-seater SUVs and MPVs (family cars).

Hyundai’s new Stargazer MPV recently introduced in the Indonesia. While there is no official word on its India launch, the model is likely to make its way to India sometime next year. Here, the new Hyundai MPV will take on the Kia Carens and Maruti Suzuki XL6. In Indonesia, the Hyundai Stargazer has been offered in four variants – Active, Trend, Style and Prime. For power, the MPV uses a 115bhp, 1.5L MPI petrol engine and two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and an IVT automatic gearbox options. In terms of features, the Hyundai Stargazer offers ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), Bose premium audio system, BlueLink connected car tech, electronic parking brake with auto hold and adaptive cruise control. If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is planning to foray into the 7-seater SUV space with a new model in coming years. It will be the most expensive SUV from the Indo-Japanese automaker and sold via its premium Nexa dealership network. Codenamed Y17, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV might share its platform with the soon-to-be-launched Grand Vitara – i.e. Global C-platform. Under the hood, the model might feature the 1.5L K15C dualjet petrol engine and Toyota’s 1.5L TNGA Atkison petrol strong hybrid powertrain. Toyota and Suzuki are reportedly co-developing a new C-segment MPV for the Indian market. In terms of price and positioning, the new Toyota 7-seater MPV will sit between the Innova Crysta and Ertiga. The Japanese automaker has already trademarked the Toyota Rumion nameplate in India. It’s likely to be used for its re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Its entire design and interior layout will be similar to the Ertiga. Though, a few cosmetic changes will differentiate it. The new Toyota MPV will carry a newly-designed front grille with Toyota’s signature logo. Toyota Innova HyCross is ready to make its global debut in November 2022, followed by its India launch in January 2023. Here, it will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta. In other Asian markets, the Innova HyCross will be introduced as Innova Zenix. The model will underpin Toyota’s global TNGA-C platform and measure around 100mm longer than the existing Innova Crysta. While some of its design bits will be borrowed from the current generation Innova, it will share a few styling elements with the global-spec Veloz and Corolla Cross. Toyota Kirloskar Motor will introduce the new-generation Fortuner SUV sometime next year. The all-new model could be built on Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture and get features such as ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), electric power steering and vehicle stability control. The new 2023 Toyota Fortuner might get diesel hybrid powertrain. It could feature a 2.8L 1GD-FTV oil burner with the mild hybrid tech and an integrated starter generator (ISZG). Rumour has it that the company might use the ’GD Hybrid’ badge for the SUV’s hybrid variant. The upcoming Citroen 7-seater SUV was recently spotted testing that’s reported to hit showrooms sometime next year. Called the Citroen C3 Plus, the model will be based on the C3 hatchback and share most of its design elements, features, platform and engines with its younger sibling. Though, it will be longer and have an additional row of seats. Its wheelbase could be similar to the C3. For power, the new Citroen 7-seat SUV might use the same 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol that does duty in the C3. The fourth-generation Kia Carnival might make its way to India. It’s globally unveiled model is longer, wider, taller and more spacious than the previous generation. Major cosmetic changes and feature upgrades are expected to be made. Here, the 2023 Kia Carnival might come with the existing engine – i.e. 2.2L diesel. The oil burner pushes out a peak power of 200bhp and 440Nm of torque. It’s paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Nissan has been considering 7-seater version of the Magnite SUV for the Indian market. The model is likely to have the sliding system for adjusting legroom in the middle and third rows. There will be a foldable bench seat in the cargo space. Most of its components and styling bits will be sourced from the Magnite. In fact, the new Nissan 7-seater SUV could be offered with the 1.0L turbo petrol and naturally aspirated petrol engines sourced from its younger sibling.
