Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian arm of the Japanese automaker, aims to expand its product portfolio in coming years. While the company is all set to launch the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in September 2022, it will bring in the new-generation Innova and Fortuner sometime next year. According to a fresh media report, the new Toyota Innova Hycross will make its official debut in November 2022. Its market launch might take place in January 2023. Interestingly, the new Innova Hycross will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta.
The report further states that the new 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross will be sold in other Asian markets as Innova Zenix. The model will be designed on the lighter monocoque platform instead of the ladder-frame architecture. In fact, the RWD (rear-wheel drive) will be replaced with the FWD (front-wheel drive) setup. It will measure around 4.7 meters in length and sit on a 2890mm long wheelbase.
In terms of design, the new 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross will be different from the existing Innova Crysta. Some of its styling bits will be borrowed from the global-spec Toyota Corolla Cross SUV and Veloz MPV. It will have more cabin space to offer, thanks to its longer wheelbase. Similar to the Innova Crysta, the Hycross will be offered with multiple seating configurations.
Powertrain system of the Innova Hycross will include a 2.0L petrol motor with the heavily localized version of the THS II (Toyota Hybrid System). The latter has a twin-motor layout that enhance its high ‘step-off’ torque and fuel efficiency. There will be no diesel engine.
As mentioned above, the company is working on the new-generation Toyota Fortuner that will be high on features and safety. The SUV will receive a 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine benefited with the mild hybrid technology and an integrated starter generator (ISG). Compared to the existing engine, the new hybrid unit will be more powerful and frugal.
