New MG Sedan Details

MG Motor is planning to expand its Indian product portfolio with number of new models across different segments. The British carmaker has already confirmed the 6-seater Hector, all-new 7-seater MPV and Maxus D90 SUV that will debut at the Auto Expo 2020 next week.

  • MG’s new sedan will be based on the China-spec Baojun RC-6.
  • It will take directly on the Honda Accord.
  • The sedan’s engine setup could be borrowed from Hector.
  • The new sedan from MG is likley to launch in 2021.

According to Autocar, MG will also showcase all-new sedan that will be based on the Baojun RC-6 that was recently launched in China at the Chengdu Motor Show 2019. Its launch is likely to happen sometime next year.

New MG Sedan

The new MG sedan (Baojun RC-6) is essentially a cross between a coupe, off-roader and a sedan. It carries coupe-like flowing roof with a ground clearance of around 180mm and the sedan-like three box layout and driving dynamics. Upfront, the new MG sedan (Baojun RC-6) features a large wraparound grille, fighter-jet like faux intakes surrounding the fog lamps and a long and flat bonnet. The LED headlamps come with intelligent high and low beam switching. The blackened running boards, flowing roofline and bold creases enhance its side profile. At the back, it gets a darkened rear valance.

Interior of the sedan is loaded with several advanced connectivity features and comfort goodies. The Baojun RC-6 (new MG sedan) comes with a voice recognition system that claimed to be 20 times faster than the conventional system. The China-spec model also gets advanced adaptive cruise control, a multifunction high-definition camera, traffic jam assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot collision – avoidance assist, traffic sign warning and traffic speed assist. In India, the new MG sedan (Baojun RC-6) will be offered with the Hector’s 1.5L tubro petrol engine that’s good for 143bhp and 245Nm. A diesel powertrain will also be on offer.  Globally, it comes with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a virtual 8-speed CVT.
