Riding high on the success of the new-generation Amaze, Honda Cars India (HCI) became the country’s third largest carmaker in July, 2018. The Japanese carmaker dispatched over 10,000 units the new 2018 Honda Amaze that sets the highest monthly sales record for Honda in India, yet. The compact sedan contributed 51 percent to the company’s total sales of 19,970 units in July.
With such high sales figures, HCI beats Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors that recorded totals sales of 19,781 units and 17,079 units respectively. However, the difference between the third and the fourth largest car manufacturers is marginal (only 189 units).
While the new Amaze was the major volume generator for the company, the City sedan, WR-V compact SUV and Jazz hatchback registered total sales of 3,709 units, 3,386 units and 1,869 units respectively. The company managed to sell only 631 units of the BR-V. Just so you, the Honda Jazz hatchback recently received an update with minor design and feature changes.
Talking about Honda’s future plan, the Japanese carmaker will introduce the new-generation CR-V with a new diesel engine and 7-seats layout before 2018 festive season. The new Honda CR-V will make use of a newly-developed, more powerful 1.6L i-DTEC diesel powertrain that’s good for 120bhp. Along with a new oil burner, the SUV will get a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Honda’s iconic Civic sedan will also make a comeback in India sometime next year. The new Honda Civic 2019 will feature the same new, more refined 1.6L i-DTEC diesel motor with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The carmaker recently revealed the new-generation Honda Brio hatchback at the 2018 GIIAS in Indonesia. Packed with an 89bhp, 1.2L i-VTEC petrol engine, the new Brio is likely to hit Indian roads in late 2019 or early 2020.
