Toyota Plans to Launch RAV4, Highlander and C-HR SUVs in India

Toyota is considering the hybrid versions of the RAV4, Highlander, C-HR, Harrier and Lexus RX SUVs for the Indian car market.

Japanese automaker, Toyota is gearing up for the launch of the re-badged Baleno hatchback in India in the second half of 2019. The company is also reportedly working on an all-new premium Crossover MPV for the Indian market. A new media report claims that the Japanese automaker plans to enter into the C segment and the B-high segment for the hybrid and PHV. Adding to it, the company is also exploring the hybrid versions of the Corolla and Yaris sedans.

The report further claims that the Japanese automaker is exploring the Highlander, RAV 4, C-HR, Harrier and Lexus RX SUVs for the Indian market. The company is aiming to also leverage on the new law of importing 2,500 vehicles a year without the need of homologation. The company plans to bring in big hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs from Toyota’s global portfolio.

Japanese automaker is also planning to launch the Hiace and Alphard MPVs in the next 12-18 months. The company has already showcased these 2 MPVs in the country. In fact, the Hiace hybrid has been spotted multiple times on Indian roads.

The Toyota C-HR has also been spotted testing on Indian markets. This B-SUV has been designed for mature markets, but Toyota is now considering this SUV for the fast growing Indian markets. The new-gen Toyota RAV4 was debuted last year. It directly rivals the Jeep Compass 5-seater SUV. Both C-HR and RAV4 SUVs are based on the TNGA platform, which also underpins the Prius and Corolla.
