Top 5 New Electric SUVs Unveiled – Launch Details

Auto Expo 2023 is dedicated to the EVs, electric mobility solutions and advanced green technologies. The 16th edition of the automotive event showcased a range of future EVs (electric vehicles) right from Maruti Suzuki’s eVX to Toyota bZ4X, BYD Seal and Kia EV9. Maruti eVX

Maruti electric SUV eVX concept

Maruti Suzuki eVX concept was the brand’s showstopper at the event. Codenamed YV8, the electric SUV will be the first born-electric model from the Indo-Japanese automaker in the country. Its final version will witness a market launch in 2025 and it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta EV that’s currently under its initial development stage. Dimensionally, the eVX concept measures 4300mm in length and has wheelbase of 2700mm. It previews the brand’s new design language and comes with a 60kWh battery offering a range of around 550km. Tata Harrier EV

Tata Harrier EV

The Tata Harrier EV is among the much-anticipated upcoming new electric SUVs in India. The model made its first appearance at the 2023 Auto Expo in its concept form. The carmaker has confirmed that the EV will go on sale in 2024. It’s built on the heavily re-engineered version of the Omega platform – Tata’s Gen EV architecture. The electric SUV has V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) charging capabilities that means it can power other external devices and electric vehicles respectively. Tata Sierra SUV Price

The production-ready version of the Tata Sierra will hit Indian roads sometime in 2025. The new Sierra SUV will be offered with petrol engine as well. The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed specification of its electric powertrain system. Here, it will take directly on the Mahindra Scorpio-N. Unlike the concept, the close-to-production version has a proper five-door construction along with a new faux front grille, sporty bumper, dual-tone wheels, blacked out C and D pillars and a large glasshouse. Tata Curvv SUV

Tata Motors showcased the Curvv SUV coupe in its near production avatar at the Auto Expo 2023. The model will go on sale in 2024 and take on mid-size SUVs including Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. The concept has futuristic and minimalist design (Tata’s “New Digital” design language) with elements such as a sloping roofline, squared-off wheel arches, bold shoulder crease and body cladding all around the body. Similar to the Sierra SUV, the Tata Curvv will be made available with petrol and electric powertrain options. More details here…

Kia EV9

Kia EV9 Concept

Kia EV9 electric SUV concept is surely one of the major attractions at the Auto Expo 2023. Before its India debut, the model was showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2021. Similar to the Kia EV6, it has been designed on the E-GMP (electric global modular platform) architecture. The concept features a 77.4kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and delivers a range of up to 483km on a full charge. With a 350kWh charger, it supports the next-generation ultra-fast charging technology enabling it to charge 10 to 80 percent in 20-30 minutes. The EV9 concept has twin motor setup with FWD system.
