Tata Sierra SUV Launch Timeline Revealed -Petrol, EV Powertrains

Tata Motors has unveiled the close-to-production version of the Sierra electric SUV at the 16th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo. Just so you know, the carmaker showcased its concept avatar at the last edition of the automotive event. First launched in the early 90s, the Sierra was introduced with the Telco moniker. The carmaker has confirmed that the Sierra electric SUV will hit Indian roads by 2025. In the company’s model lineup, it will sit above the Safari. The Tata Sierra has been designed on the Alfa platform that underpins the Altroz hatchback and Punch mini SUV in India. It carries the brand’s latest Impact 2.0 design language. Upfront, the electric SUV features a new flaux grille, headlamps connected via a chrome strip, sporty bumper and a more upright and flatter bonnet.

The showcased model retains most of the design elements from the concept. It carries the signature design bits of the original model including the curved-over rear-side windows. Unlike the concept that has three-door setup, the showcased model comes with a proper five door body built and the four doors. It has been assembled with the dual-tone wheels that appear production ready. The blacked-out C and D pillars along with the large glasshouse area further enhance its sporty appeal.

Inside, the Tata Sierra features a lounge-like seating area with a rear bench and a front passenger seat with swivel function. Similar to the concept, the near production version of the SUV is likely to measure 4150mm in length, 1820mm in width and 1675mm in height with a wheelbase of 2450mm.

The Tata Sierra SUV, which was showcased as an EV, will also be offered with the turbocharged petrol engine when launched in the market. Since its based on the Alfa architecture, the model might use the Altroz’s 1.2L turbo petrol engine. Though, the motor could be tuned for generating extra power.
