Toyota Mirai FCEV – Range Up to 640km On A Full Hydrogen Tank

Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) has been showcased at the ongoing 2023 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Just so you know, Toyota and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT) started conducting a pilot study to evaluate the Mirai on Indian roads and climatic conditions in early 2022. The pilot project, which was launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, aims to create an ecosystem for FCEV vehicles in the country. It’s the second-generation Mirai FCEV that’s being used for pilot study.

For power, the Toyota Mirai FCEV uses a hydrogen fuel cell battery pack that delivers a range of up to 650km in a full charge. What’s more interesting is that it can be refuelled in just 5 minutes. Its power output stands at 174bhp. Just so you know, the second-generation model of the sedan was introduced in global markets in 2020. The new model has completely redesigned fuel cell stack and more hydrogen storage capacity. It’s claimed to work on the system that’s smoother than before and provide better handling and linear response.

The new Mirai has been designed on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. Compared to its predecessor, the new one carries a redesigned front fascia featuring a pronounced grille. It has a coupe-like rear that’s said to lower centre of gravity and improve its rigidity.

measures 4935mm in length, 1885mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2920mm. It has been assembled with 20-inch wheels. Interior of the sedan has been updated with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a digital instrument display with controls placed in the centre of the dashboard. Ditching the original four seats configuration, the new model has five seats layout.
