Top 5 Cars, SUVs Launched By Maruti Suzuki In 2022

Maruti Suzuki has already announced to unveil 16 new vehicles at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company plans to showcase 3 brand new SUVs including an all-new YY8 electric SUV concept at the 16th edition of Indian Auto Expo. Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a wide range of new SUVs and cars in the country in the next couple of years. The brand’s aggressive plans are clearly visible from its product strategy since the beginning of 2022.

In 2022, Maruti Suzuki had launched 4 new models in the country. Adding to it, the company introduced facelifts and CNG versions of its existing line-up. In this article, we talk about the top 5 Maruti Suzuki cars launched in our market in 2022 –

1. New Baleno

Maruti Suzuki had launched the significantly upgraded Baleno hatchback in the country in the first quarter of 2022. The new model is based on the stronger & modified Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which will also underpin a new SUV Coupe. The new Baleno also receive premium cabin with an all-new dashboard, a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, connected car tech and others. It is powered by a 1.2L Dual-jet petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. Instead of a CVT unit, the new Baleno comes with AGS or automated manual transmission.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the new Brezza SUV in the country by mid-2023. The new model comes with significantly revised exterior as well as interior. MSIL has also removed the “Vitara” prefix from the new model, and is now called the Brezza. The new model comes with new front styling and completely revised rear profile. Inside the cabin, it gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, HUD or Heads-Up Display, automatic AC with rear AC vents and others. It is powered by a 1.5-litre K15C Dual-Jet petrol engine with mild hybrid tech. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

3. New Alto K10

Maruti Suzuki had launched the new-gen Alto K10 in the country in August 2022. The new model is available in 4 trims – Std, LXi, VXi and VXi+ – and 6 variants. The popular hatchback comes with bigger dimensions, improved design, updated interior and engine. In terms of proportions, the new Alto K10 is 3,530mm long, 1,490mm wide and 1,520mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,380mm. It is powered by a 1.0L DualJet, Dual VVT K-Series petrol engine with the start/stop technology. This engine produces 67bhp and 89Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.

4. Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki entered the mid-sized SUV category with the Grand Vitara SUV. Launched in September 2022, the new Maruti Grand Vitara has received an overwhelming response from buyers and it commands a waiting period of around 6 months. The new model is positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. It is based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the new Brezza and the global-spec S-Cross. The new Grand Vitara is offered with two engine options – 1.5L, 4-cylinder K15C smart hybrid petrol and 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson Cycle TNGA petrol powertrains. The mild hybrid setup delivers 103bhp and 136Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. It comes with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system. The strong hybrid powertrain returns a claimed power of 92bhp at 5,500rpm and 122Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. It’s paired to an AC synchronous motor that’s good for 79bhp and 141Nm. The combined power output stands at 115bhp. With a 6-speed e-CVT gearbox, the Maruti Grand Vitara strong hybrid offers fuel economy of 28kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the updated XL6 MPV in the country in April 2022. The new model is available in 3 trims – Zeta, Alpha and Alpha Plus. It comes with high-end features including a 360 degree view camera, Heads-Up Display, a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartPlay Studio, and Suzuki Connect telematics with 40+ features, ventilated seats and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The new XL6 is powered by a new 1.5-litre Dual-Jet engine with a smart hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
