Top 4 Upcoming New MG SUVs In India
Morris Garages (MG) is planning to expand its Indian product portfolio with a range of new models including SUVs and MPVs. Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the MG Hector Plus and Gloster SUVs, and G10 and M360 MPVs have already been planned for the Indian market. Besides this, the carmaker will also bring in two more SUVs – Baojun RS-3 based compact SUV and MG ZS petrol.
Talking about the MG Hector Plus, the 6-seater SUV has been scheduled to hit showrooms in the next 3 months. For power, the vehicle will use the 1.5L turbo petrol, 2.0L diesel and 1.5L petrol with 48V mild hybrid powertrain.
The 1.5L turbo-petrol motor is good for 143bhp and 250Nm, while the oil burner makes 170bhp with 350Nm. The hybrid powertrain includes a 48V lithium ion battery that helps producing 20Nm of extra toque when required. It also features E-Boot, Regenerative Braking and Engine Auto Start-Stop system.
The MG Gloster is a premium 7-seater SUV that will be put up against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol model will use a 224bhp, 2.0L turbo motor, the diesel variant will come with a 218bhp, 2.0L turbo unit. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The 7-seater SUV will be launched near around this year’s festive season.
In November last year, the British carmaker introduced the Baojun RS-3 compact SUV in the Chinese market. The re-badged version of the RS-3 might make its way to India. Powering the vehicle is a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s good enough for 104bhp. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a CVT unit.
MG Motor India will also introduce the petrol-powered version of the ZS SUV. Currently, we have its electric iteration. Globally, the MG ZS petrol is offered with two engine options – a 109bhp, 1.0L turbo and a 104bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated unit.
