MG ZS Petrol India

MG Motors’ first electric SUV, the ZS EV has received an excellent response from buyers with 2,400 bookings in just 28 days. Buoyed by excellent response for electric vehicle, MG is now planning to launch the petrol version of the ZS SUV in India. The MG ZS petrol SUV was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is reported that the petrol powered SUV could be launched in the Indian market in early 2021.

This year, the company will launch the Hector Plus 6-seater and the Gloster SUV. In the international markets, the ZS petrol is available in 2 engine options – 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 104bhp and 141Nm of torque, the turbicharged unit produces 109bhp and 160Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The ZS 1.5L model can achieve 0-100kmph in 10.9 seconds, and the 1.0L model takes 12.4 seconds to achive the same speed. While the former has a top speed of 175kmph, the 1.0L unit achieves 180kmph.

It is expected that the MG ZS petrol will be equipped with segment-leading features. Most of the features are likely to be sourced from the MG Hector. The electric vehicle has 3 steering modes – Urban, Normal and Dynamic to suit different type of roads and traffic conditions. Inside the cabin, the ZS gets 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support. The petrol version is also available in 2 variants – Excite and Exclusive.

MG Motors will have to achieve high-level of localisation to price the MG ZS petrol competitively. The SUV will directly rival the likes of the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta.
