Skoda will launch 3 all-new models in the Indian market over the next couple of years.

Volkswagen Group has recently announced India Plan 2.0, which is led by Czech automaker, Skoda. The company is working on increasing the localisation of its parts and local development of platform and engines. Skoda is working on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform, which will be used by both Volkswagen and Skoda in India. Not just new products, Skoda is also aiming to improve its dealership network and after sales service experience to customers.

Skoda will launch 3 all-new models in the country over the next couple of years. Speaking to ET Auto, Zac Hollis, director of sales, service and marketing at Skoda Auto India, said that the company is working on doubling its distribution network to 100 cities with 130 outlets from 54 cities and 63 outlets. Adding to it, Skoda believes that the company would grow 4 to 5 times once the products under India 2.0 are up and running in India.

Skoda will launch the much-awaited Karoq SUV in the first half of 2020. A possible debut at the 2020 Auto Expo can’t be ignored. This model is expected to be imported as a CKD unit and will challenge the likes of Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming MG Hector. Built on the versatile MQB platform, the Skoda Karoq will be equipped with BSVI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. The company could also launch the petrol version of the SUV.

Adding to it, the company will launch an all-new 5-seater SUV based on the MQB AO IN platform. The SUV’s design will be inspired by the Kamiq SUV, which recently debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It will be positioned against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming Kia SP2i SUV. The second model to be baed on the new platform will be a mid-sized sedan or an all-new notchback. It will come as a replacement for the Skoda Rapid sedan. The company is also developing an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in India. This powertrain will power the upcoming compact SUV and the sedan.
