Skoda Karoq SUV Coming This Year To Challenge Compass and Harrier

To be positioned below the Kodiaq, the Skoda Karoq will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson

We reported earlier that 20 all-new SUVs will be launched in the Indian market in 2019. Czech automaker, Skoda will bring its global SUV – Karoq in the Indian market in the next fiscal year (April 2019 – March 2020). Last year, the Skoda Karoq was spotted at an airport parking lot in India; however, it was fitted with Czech Republic license plate.

The Skoda Karoq is basically the Yeti’s successor and is already on sale in several international markets. With this SUV, Skoda will mark re-entry into the 5-seater premium SUV segment. To be slotted below the Kodiaq 7-seater SUV, the Karoq will challenge the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

The Skoda Karoq is based on the Volkswagen Group’s versatile MQB platform that also underpins the Kodiaq. This will be the company’s 4th model based on this platform, first 3 being the Kodiaq, Superb and Octavia. The SUV will arrive in India as a CKD unit and is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh – Rs 25 lakh. Dimensionally, the Karoq is 4,382mm in length, 1,814mm in width and 1,605mm in height. The SUV has a long wheelbase of 2,638mm and stands at a ground clearance of 200mm. The SUV also has a boot space of 521-litres, which can be further extended up to 1,810-litres by folding the rear seats completely. Also See – Skoda Karoq – 5 things to know

It is expected that Skoda will introduce the Karoq SUV with a BSVI compliant diesel engine. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that produces 148bhp of power and 340Nm of torque. A 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox will be offered as standard.
