The much-awaited Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 motorcycles will see a global release in September, 2018. While the official date is yet to be announced, the bikes are reported to roll out between 22 to 26 September. Both the motorcycles will also hit Indian roads near around 2018 Diwali season.

Earlier, the RE 650cc twins were scheduled to launch in India by mid 2018. However, the plan was delayed to match quality standards of the bikes with its close competitors. In addition, the company also aims to expand its distribution network and increase its production capacity to minimize delays in delivery of the bikes.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 first broke cover at the 2017 EICMA Motor Show in Milan, and made their India debut at the 2017 Rider Maina in Goa. Both the bikes have been designed on all-new chassis, and are packed a new 650cc, parallel-twin, oil-cooled, fuel injected engine developed by Royal Enfield’s UK Technology Centre and Chennai teams.

The new parallel twin engine is Royal Enfield’s most powerful engine that makes 47bhp at 7,100rpm and 52Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. This motor employs four valves per cylinder with overhead cam, an air cooler and a new balancer shaft that reduces vibrations. It is claimed to achieve 80-90mph (130kmph – 140kmph). As far as the pricing is concerned, the new Royal Enfield 650cc twin bikes are estimated to come in the range of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 will be stacked up against the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Kawasaki Z650.
