Renault Kwid Compact SUV Imagined; Launch This Year

French automaker, Renault is working on an all-new compact SUV for the Indian market. Codenamed HBC, the new SUV is rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger. However, Renault is yet to make a formal announcement on the same. The new model is expected to be launched in the second half of this year, before Diwali.

The upcoming Renault HBC will be based on the modified version of the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Triber MPV. For people not in the know, this is the same platform that also underpins the entry-level Kwid hatchback. This modular platform is locally developed and is used to develop cars under Renault-Nissan Alliance. A new rendering by Kleber Silva suggests the possible design of the upcoming Kwid based compact SUV.

Renault HBC Launch

The upcoming Renault Kwid compact SUV will share most of the styling from the bigger Renault SUVs including the Captur and the Duster. It will feature the upright, SUV-ish stance with sloping roof. The compact SUV is likely to feature large 16-inch wheels and a high ground clearance. In terms of features, the SUV will get LED daytime running lights, LED tail-lamps, alloy wheels and rear wiper/washer. The compact SUV will share the interior design with the Triber MPV. 

The upcoming Renault HBC compact SUV will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Codenamed ‘HR10’, this turbo engine is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT unit.

The Renault HBC sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be priced somewhere between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh. The new model is expected to offer electrically adjustable sunroof, which makes it the most affordable to offer this feature. For people not in the know, Nissan is also developing a sub-4 meter SUV, rumoured to be called the Nissan Magnite. This SUV also uses the CMF-A+ platform and is likely to be the most affordable in its category.
